Compliance Problem

What is your differential when PIP (peak inspiratory pressure) is HIGH and your plat (plateau pressure) is HIGH?

Alveoli cannot fill:

• Pulmonary edema (fluid, blood)

• Pneumonia

• ARDS

Alveoli cannot expand:

• Pneumothorax/Hemothorax

• Pleural effusions

• Abdominal compartment syndrome

(Not an extensive differential! But gives you some common examples.)
